Advertisement The Congress on Thursday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over reports that he walked past the guard of honour accorded to him in Moscow while the Indian national anthem was being played. Congress said it was not merely a protocol gaffe and accused Modi of hurting the dignity of the country.

“National flags and national anthems are not mere symbols. They stand for identity, integrity and dignity of the nation. It is with utmost sadness that the Congress is forced to condemn the behaviour of Prime Minister Modi, because of his evident lack of respect either for the national flag or the national anthem,” Congress communication department head Randeep Surjewala.
