KATHMANDU: Despite failure of the Nepali football team to clinch the title of SAFF Championship, the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) felicitated Nepali national team players a cash prize of Rs. 250,000 each amidst a function held at Dashrath Staduum of the Kathmandu on Monday.

They were felicitated for their excellent performance in the match and making their journey till semi-finals to the semifinals of the recently concluded Eighth SAFF Championship. Players including head coach Jack Stefanowski and his assistance coach Richard Orlowski received Rs 250 thousand each. Similarly, ANFA also honoured two physiotherapists with Rs 100,000 each among others.
Although Nepal couldn’t get hold of the SAFF trophy, the home team reached the semifinals of the 8th SAFF tournament defeating India, ending a seven year victory drought against the powerhouse neighbor, and Bangladesh, and played a draw against Pakistan. Nepal was defeated by Afghanistan in the semifinals.
Speaking at the program, ANFA President Ganesh Thapa said that it was hard to accept the defeat of the national team despite their good performance in the competition.
Earlier, ANFA had announced to give away an apartment to each players and a lifetime allowance of Rs 10,000 if the home side had won the trophy. On the occasion of felicitation program, head coach Stefanowski thanked all for their support during the Championship.
